ABOUT MELANIE HÖNIG
Melanie Hönig has worked as a painter, photographer and event producer, organizing and promoting large-scale international arts and cultural events in Los Angeles, London, Washington, DC and elsewhere.
After studying both painting and journalism, Hönig studied photography at London's Royal College of Art. As a young artist, two UCLA-sponsored summer intensives in the UK turned her love life upside down -- altered her perspectives, vision and confidence - and created a lifelong passion for photography and travel. Later, while managing culturally-focused non-profits, she continued supporting the arts through collecting. Now she is once again focused on making art, showing her work in galleries and collaborating with designers on commissioned pieces and surface design projects. Her images continue to be influenced by extensive travel throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the US, which she blogs about on RoveratHome.com.
Hönig uses her photographs (both old and new, digital and film) as the foundation for her artwork, altering them by hand-painting, scratching, bending, re-photographing, and layering with paint strokes and textural images that she collects as she travels.
Touching on topics of myth, fantasy and memory, her current collections evoke the passage of time and a strong sense of place.
